When starting a Microsoft application that works with eformity, the eformity add-in should automatically start and appear in the ribbon. If this is not the case, there might be an issue with the add-in. This article provides guidance on how to resolve these issues.

Is the add-in Installed?

The first and most obvious issue could be that the add-in is not installed. To check this, you need to navigate to the options within the relevant Microsoft application. You can access the options by first clicking on 'File' in the ribbon.

A new section will open within the Microsoft application. Click on 'Options'. The following image shows this option circled. Once you have opened the options, navigate to the 'Add-ins' section. At the bottom of the 'Add-ins' section, you will see an option labeled 'Manage:'. Choose 'COM Add-ins' from this option and click 'Go…'.

A new window will appear with a list. Check if the eformity add-in is listed among the various add-ins and that it is checked. If the add-in is not listed, it has not been installed. Refer to the 'Installation' category for installation instructions.

Is the add-in activated?

If the add-in is installed but not loading, it might not be activated. To activate the eformity add-in, you need to open the Registry Editor. Open the Registry Editor by right-clicking the 'Start' button.

A menu will appear with several options. Choose 'Run' from this menu. Type 'regedit.exe' in the new element and press Enter to open the 'Registry Editor'.

In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\eformity\Document Builder\Client. Check if the following key "OfficeWordActive" with the value 1 exists.

Note!

For Excel, you need to check OfficeExcelActive, for Outlook OfficeOutlookActive, and for PowerPoint OfficePowerPointActive.

If these keys do not exist, it might be disabled in the subscription or it may not have been selected during installation. If not properly set during installation, you can still configure it with the following steps:

  1. Right-click in the Registry Editor.
  2. Choose "New" -> Select DWORD (32-bit) value.
  3. Enter the name, for example "OfficeWordActive" for Word, and press Enter.
  4. Double-click the name and set the value to 1.

Is the add-in disabled?

If you are still having issues with the eformity add-in, it might be disabled by Microsoft. The system administrator can follow the steps below to resolve this:

  1. Right-click the Microsoft Start button.
  2. Choose 'Run'.
  3. Type 'regedit.exe' and press Enter.
  4. Check if this key exists: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\DocumentBuilderMicrosoftOfficeAddin.AddinModule (replace "Outlook" with the application in which the issue occurs, such as Word or PowerPoint).
  5. Delete the key.
  6. Restart the affected application (Word/Outlook/PowerPoint, etc.).

It is also possible that the add-in is disabled for the specific Office application. Follow these steps to check:

  1. In the relevant Office application: Go to File -> Options.
  2. Choose Add-ins.
  3. At the bottom of the screen, select "Disabled Items" and click Go.
  4. Check if the eformity add-in is listed. If so, enable it and restart the Office application.

Other issues

If the above solutions do not help, there could be other reasons why an add-in is disabled. These reasons include:

  • An add-in running slowly or loading slowly (e.g., if installed on a network and/or there is a slow internet connection).
  • An add-in causing an error, preventing the application from working.
  • Other installed add-ins causing issues.
  • Antivirus software.

If the solutions do not work and you cannot identify the problem, you can check the application logs to find out why an add-in is being disabled. Additionally, it is possible to add an add-in to a 'whitelist', which will automatically enable it.
