Outlook 365 for Windows introduces roaming signatures
Microsoft has started rolling out the "Roaming Signature" feature in Outlook. This functionality ensures that the local signature is now stored in the cloud, making it available on other devices and environments.
The problem
Microsoft is initially rolling out the functionality, and in a subsequent phase, a feature (API) will become available for developers. This is a significant harmonization of email signatures within Microsoft Office, as currently, it is quite fragmented.
There is a signature for the desktop, for Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) online, OWA, and mobile phones. Each has different limitations. This new feature from Microsoft aims to improve this situation in the future.
The desktop version of the eformity add-in uses a local folder to store signatures, which are automatically copied to the cloud.
The modified functionality only affects the desktop version of the eformity add-in (the Microsoft 365 add-in is not affected).
The solution
To ensure everything continues to work as expected, you can temporarily disable this feature. This can be done through the registry editor. The table below provides all the necessary information about the new key.
Key location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Setup\
